Time: 28:52. Didn't get the MON-TUE-WED-THU-FRI-SAT-SUN theme until after I was done; relatedly, it wasn't clear to me for a good while that the downs had the same rebus-y goodness as the acrosses. Two minutes behind tushnet.
CrossWorld buzz: Good. I disagree w/ OFL on this one...a Maleska puzz w/ ESNE, ALAR, and YSER may also be a good puzz. This one is. Variety is indeed the spice of life...wouldn't want all Sunday NYT puzzes to bring back 1993 like this one does--yep, Rex is right about the vintage feel to this one--but wouldn't want them all to be mod, either...A mod puzz like say Jeff C.'s "X marks the spot" Sunday of a while back gains by being juxtaposed against an old school one like this.
CrossOver buzz: Good. The theme is, yes, crunchy. It's also accessible given its days of the week logic. The downs are a nice complement--ALMONDINE, VIRTUES, BOWED OUT, GREEN THUMB, AFRICA, U.S. ATLAS, and ETATS-UNIS are a good set. (Despite the snippy wikipedia line here that presumbly went along w/the Var. cluing, ALMONDINE is just fine, right?...in the good ole Etats-Unis we don't much go for AMANDINE, eh?) The grid is fine for a SUN w/ 138B, 66W. Along w/ the tired stuff that drove OFL over the top, there's lots of nice fill...GAS CAP, HOTDOGS, RED DEER, KNISHES, ONE-L LAMA, etc.
