Constructor: Jeff Chen
Time: 6:59. Flailed around for a while on top...wanted SHREW for HARPY at 1A and ERGO for THUS at 6A. Didn't see the water molecules as I solved. 58 seconds behind sanfranman59 and 18 seconds behind tushnet; <2x Rex.
CrossWorld buzz: Excellent. WATER WATER EVERYWHERE plus ANCIENT MARINER plus seven H2O molecules = an exceptionally cool theme. Geometry/spatial plus verbal is the future of CW per MR, and no one gets that any better than Jeff C. 78W and 39B are a v. acceptable price to pay for the ultra-dense theme. Some cute cluing for a Tuesday, espec "Note accompanying an F, maybe" for SEE ME. The fill is cool...TYCHO BRAHE, HOMOPHONES, DR. WHO, MOJO, YOYO, LEWD, OH GOD, HOT BATH (an MR fave), CALTECH, etc. For this Jeff C. enthusiast, even his junk (AMAH, with the classic Maleskan clue "Indian nurse") shines...ya do work that good and the whole thing glows. (Note for Ellen S. and all interested...it was Giordano Bruno not Tycho Brahe who was persecuted by Bellarmine...Brahe's own death is an interesting story, but it waren't the Inquisition what done him in...)
CrossOver buzz: Excellent. The seven HOHs that speedy CWers will fly past will draw the attention of slower solvers in a v. nice way. This is a puzz that shines for all.
What would I do without you to keep me honest--honestly.
