Time: 11:46. Knew from checking tushnet's time before I solved that this was going to be easy for a Friday...got YIDDISH right away for "Singer tongue" and knew I should know Carrie Fisher's book although unlike Rex I didn't...finished a minute and a half or so behind tushnet and around 2x Rex. I guess a good consequence of being a slower solver than Rex is not having to feel as guilty about knowing so much junk so fast...liked his confessional today a lot. I guess I should as a not-so-slow solver admit to guessing ANIS right away. Unlike OFL have never taught the Oresteia... laid down OEDIPUS instead of ORESTES in the SE corner...nice mini-theme w/ the combo of ELECTRA and ORESTES.
CrossWorld buzz: Good. WISHFUL DRINKING, TWITTER FOLLOWER, SEVEN OF DIAMONDS, and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS are all nice, espec Carrie's book...the 70w, 29B grid is nice...novel feel to the middle w/ the 15s sandwiching a 7-7. Yes, somea the fill is not so nice...wondered as I was solving whether we were going to have AHAS plus AHH...AHH turned out to be AAH given that MOCHA turned out to be DECAF...whatever.
CrossOver buzz: Good. Nondenizens aren't likely to guess ANIS fast. But the straightforwardness of this one--very little clue trickeration here--along w/ the pretty grid and the combined pop and classical vibe make this nice for the mellower solvers.
