Time: 6:02. Some pleasant mess-ups for a Monday...wanted CONESTOGA for WAGON TRAIN...laid down PLEBE, PLOP, BLESS BE for SLIME, SLOP, BLESS ME...had LET IN for SAW IN. Beaten by 1:01 by tushnet.
CrossWorld buzz: Average. Grid fine at 76W, 36B and two nice long downs w/ WAGON TRAIN and I KID YOU NOT. But there's some weak fill espec in the SE and the theme is kinda blah for denizens. In particular, (HAWN'S) PRAWNS with its brie and chardonnay vibe spoils the pop pattern of BEANS, FRANKS, GRITS, and S'MORES...woulda rated this higher if the last food had been of the people like the first four. [Re-reading this...forgot about LAKE'S CAKES...CAKES ain't too pop...also didn't give this puzz its proper due for havin SIX long theme answers. MR never changes his infallible ratings :)...but if I were doing them over I'd bump up the average and pretty good a notch to reflect the tech ambition here.] Am okay w/ MOORE's S'MORES although I had the same initial reack as Rex...on reflection, I like it as a way of provoking solvers to think, "How *do* the Brits pronounce his name?"
CrossOver buzz: Pretty good. The theme is cuter for a casual solver...the issues w/ thematic unfreshness and too many SSTS are valid concerns for all, but they loom larger in CrossWorld than in CrossoverWorld
