Time: 22:13. RAT'S TREK/STAR TREK was the last to fall. Wanted RAT STRIP for a while...kinda missed that was a thematic answer and had a vague vision of glue traps. Hand up for UAW...then wanted US(teel)Workers. UMW is absolutely fine...not gettin' Rex on that one. (Agree w/ him in DISTRO.) Maybe it's an "ah how the mighty have fallen" thing...Rich Trumka ain't no John L. Lewis. Beaten by tushnet by a minute or so.
CrossWorld buzz: Pretty good. The theme is loose and kinda unoriginal, as OFL reminds us. The liveliness of EVIL, PEEK, RATS, POT, GULP, PERP, REVILED, and DOOM is v. good, and some of the phrases are cute...PEEK UNDER WRAPS, RATS TREK, and PERP SCHOOL all pass the bring a smile to my lips test. DIAL is a clunker. Fill felt generally fine...like SPAGO ROD DELIA and TYPE-D on the bottom...wanted to count words and blacks to give myself a better baseline for judging Sundays than I feel I have...feeling lazy though. Having said that, now feelin' some resolve...140W (61A, 79D), 70B. Will keep that in mind...considering the 441/225 sq Sun./daily ratio, that corresponds roughly to 71W, 35B...this puzz seems pretty good not that the direct comparison is necessarily right.
CrossOver buzz: Good. Cute answers, simplicity of solve, and a not bad level of -ese all lift this one up.
