I'm a situational ethics kinda guy, I guess.
I would prefer not to submit a puzz I've used Google on to the NYT site. My less than speedy time on David Steinberg's puzz today is up online. I wish it weren't, since I used Google, as I just acknowledged. But I don't know how to not submit the time...once I get the puzzle correct w/ or w/o the use of Google, the thing just goes outta my hands and onto the NYT site w/o my taking another step to submit.
A while ago, I did a poll on using Google as an aid in online solving, and said I'd be giving my own take on the right answer. I didn't do that. A key reason was that I got a comment that anticipated the answer I planned to give. Here it is:
