Constructor: Matt Ginsberg
Time: 25:11. Labored under the misimpression as I was doing this that Matt Ginsberg was Matt Gaffney of the recent Rexean dialogue re the 1989 Maleska puzz...thought that MG was showing a chameleon-like ability to camouflage his antic, meta-oriented constructing personality w/ this one...thus my search afterward for a meta anagram to the title. Felt an ouch on the point in the Rex-Matt dialogue about WS cleaning house by rejecting previously accepted subpar Maleskan puzzes...two of MR's were in that pile. Tried to make a case w/ Will for one of them w/ a night before his assassination MLK quote...it had the LAND of SEEN THE PROMISED LAND infelicitously spilling over into the SE corner...tried to fix that up by putting a matching MLKJ into the NW corner...no dice. Back to 2013...got incorrect at 21:09...knew I had a problem w/ VIDA-VID. for "Memphis Belle"-"Grant, e.g."...fixed that up in a minute or so...the "e.g." made me want an "abbr."...took a couple more minutes to find and fix MARE/MARG and EEL/EYE to create the correct HE BUGS GORE anagram for W....shoulda checked the downs first since I was solving the acrosses and coulda/shoulda known that my W. anagram was bushwa...
CrossWorld buzz: Average. Got down on the fill quickly...the ugly SOLING, OUTEAT, IN OIL, and ARMER came to me fast even as the cute SNOOZE ALARMS and ALAS, NO MORE Zs remained elusive. Got better later but there's lots of stuff like NONUSER, ENTERS ON, IN ORDER TO, and DOES OVER that doesn't sparkle. Wonder if I'm being fair to Sundays...often have a sloggy, boggy sense about their fill that I suspect is related to their size as much as to the particularities of the construction. Share Rex's reaction to the anagrams...nice but not original.
CrossOver buzz: Pretty good. The anagrams are all v. nice, and the solving is smooth. The nitty "he didn't really make this stuff up" reax of Rex and MR reflect valuing constructors and holding them to a high standard...all good for CW but not so important for CO.
