Constructor: Janet R. Bender
Time: 4:36. How fast were you?! Don't be coy, Evan...the wearl wants to know the time of the Earl! A less butter-fingered and mind-fogged solve for MR than most...beat my betters tushnet and sanfranman59 by four and six seconds, respectively.
CrossWorld buzz: Average. Not crazy about the 78W 38B grid w/ no fill over six letters...well, it's one way to solve the problem of uninspired long fill. The theme's decent...since OPERATING SYSTEM is often abbreviated OS, ya got kinduva reveal...OPEN SESAME, ORIGINAL SIN, and OCEAN SPRAY all have some zing. Hey hey, my oh my, RUR will never die...we/you modern CWers can be--in fact are, I believe--superior to Gene Maleska-era CWers...but in the end there is a deep dark truth that will always endure: Being a CWer depends on knowing short cliched fill that real people do not know.
CrossOver buzz: Pretty good. The short stuff apart from RUR AMA STS ARE is punchy: FOO IMP JOE ARM DYE DIG LAD OAT CFO RFK YOW together could make up a hard-hitting football team. Yeah it's a little thing, but it counts for real world solvers who travel on rutted roads by ox cart to fill in each word even as CrossWorlders fly above and see the great puzzle grid of America spread out from 35,000 feet overhead.
