CrossWorld Buzz: Below average. SI UNITS with no explanation as the reveal is v. not pukka for a Monday. Otherwise, all is okay...grid design, word count, fill. But some things are v. big for some critics. Rex rested his case on MINAS-MULETAS. MetaRex rests his on SI UNITS.
CrossOver Buzz. Below average. The painful reveal hurts real people, too. Maybe there's a generational thing here...just the way us old folks all remember SUBIC Bay, young folks in school nowadays all learn about SI UNITS. But maybe not...and even if so, an unkeyed metric system measurement units reveal is not gonna make w/ many newbies or oldbies smile as we go back to the office today.
Ya coulda and really shoulda used a tell-all central clue...hey, it's Monday. Yes, there's a prob w/ not being able to use "system" or "metric system" in the clue given what SI stands for, but it's a soluble one. You could refer to SI units like the gram or the mole to make the clue clear. I personally like a tell-all w/ some spice in it, like "Basic set of physical measures that has been adopted by all countries except Myanmar, Liberia, and the United States...or a hint to 17-, 27-..."
Especially in my logic puzzle-solving MetaKen identity, I'm v. down w/ C.P. Snow and the point that humanities folks oughta respect and know science...strongly agree w/ webwinger on that. The problem ain't at all that SI UNITS is science...the problem is that as it's clued the reveal is just sittin' there like a lump of international lead on a stand in Paris and bringin' no joy AND that the problem is really easy to fix. Ya don't need to go fancy by requiring cross-referencing w/ an SI unit like MOLE or METER or an SI-related word like PARIS, fine though that woulda been. Ya just needed a decent clue for the center.
