Constructors: Samuel A. Donaldson and Doug Peterson
Time: 6:23. Got the incorrect signal at 6:06; problem was the typo ANG-ZGE. Had CARTAS for CHARTS for a moment; had IRED for a while instead of TEED; the T of NOT ANY-TEED emerged after a blank period.
CrossWorld buzz. Very nice. Lots of purty fill--yes to THE LORAX, EAGLE EYE, ROAD KILL, IRON HAND, etc. Feels w/ all the open fields and the long downs that there are fewer than the 76 wds that there actually are. A zingy theme; when in doubt go w/ "Wow!" as one's organizing principle rather than "Groan."
CrossOver buzz. Good. A lower buzz than for the puzz people for two reasons: First, a median outsider to CrossWorld will get a nice implicit buzz from the nice fill and good tech of this puzz, but not the same degree of buzz that fill-oriented CrossWorlders will. Second, the cluing of the theme answers is kinda wheezy. That wheeziness is highly forgivable in the tech-y domain of CrossWorld, but it's a flaw in CrossOver land. Don't have a brilliant suggestion for fixing that up...Messrs. Donaldson, Peterson, and Shortz are a formidably good cluing team.
