Time: 6:23. Got incorrect at 5:41; problem was the typo ROOOE-ATOO...oh well. Had SO xxxxx for what turned out to be SCREW IT. Thought like loren that the theme had something to do w/ OO for a while...once the actual theme emerged through the haze it helped with MORGAN FREEMAN and HOOK SHOT. Achieved <2x Rex w/ the help of his typo; whupped by tushnet, who clocked in at 4:38.
CrossWorld buzz: Perfectly groovy. Thematic density and punch fine, word count and black squares fine, crunch nice, fill fine. Aye-aye to SCREW IT. I like the PTA-CAPTAIN cross in the middle...have an image of class captains...gives a nice little implicit momistic buzz on top of the explicit nautical buzz. RUMS and OCEAN are nice complements to the theme. Speaking of manliness...ICE CUBE and SCREW IT plus CAP'Ns COOK, MORGAN, and HOOK all make this mightily masculine as puzzles go...testosterone levels might be beyond terrestrial tolerance limits if LUGER had gotten a hard-edged clue and if we did not have the feminizing elements of the PTA, MOM, Demi MOORE, and CAP'N KANGAROO.
CrossWorld buzz: Also perfectly groovy. The puzzle peeps and the puzzle perps converge on this one, I think.
