Took me a long time to hook into what was going on with the stair-shape "back down" answers in Joe DiPietro's puzz...maybe watching "Woodstock" at the same time was giving me a contact high...
I liked it...v. good thematic density, especially considering the interlock with the non-thematic downs...liked the spatial element with the stair shapes...not as exciting as yesterday's with its thematic grid shape, but plenty nice...
CRY UNCLE was especially good...gives me a painful sense of an arm being twisted...
Is there a problem w/ the negativity of the theme? I think not...negativity sometimes works better than positivity...
An example...I think the downer theme "back down" has a lot more zing than an upbeat reverse theme "upright" with thematic answers like HONEST AS THE DAY IS LONG going up and then to the right would have...
The sagging FLAGs and other downward parts of Joe DiPietro's thematic answers are a nice metaphor for feeling down, while the upward and rightward movement of an "upright" theme just doesn't feel that interesting...
Over to Rex and my bro and sis Rexeans...
Rex v. nice...mellow mood..nice solving stories...U NU indeed...read the AL CAPP/ALCOTT to ONO/U NU excerpt to my wife this morning to see how Rexean brio projects to people outside CrossWorld...she liked it well enough but the magic wasn't there for her...ya gotta be of CrossWorld to truly appreciate Rex...
