What Rex said. I missed the dirty mind meaning of WHAT A TOOL in favor of the nerd meaning...the penile meaning works very well for Mickey Spillane's hero MIKE HAMMER. Jaime Hutchison and Victor Fleming's puzzle sure is unusual w/ its early in the week open field combined w/ some tricky for Monday clues and answers. Too bad about REBOXES...didn't have any objection to the rest of the fill, but that one didn't go down smoothly. Maybe it would work better in the UK right around Boxing Day. The square-jawed figures of a Dudley Do-Right MOUNTIE in the NW and a KEILLOR in the matched column in the SE are a nice complement to the theme, btw. A smooth solve for me, fwiw...a long bit slower than Rex but a short bit faster than my usual Monday time.
