There's good stuff in Tim Croce's puzzle--the six 15s, only 28 black squares, a low word count, and some good non-15s like JOEY RAMONE, GRADE-A EGGS, and ARMY WASPS. But it didn't work for me. My reaction is hard to detach I'm sure from a slow time even by my slow-ish standards and some joyless google searches for the likes of SOO and GTO. The bottom of the puzz is where my beef lies--the combination of MASSAGES ONE'S EGO and RESTS ON ONE'S OARS doesn't float my bateaux. My pique is greater for the former, where I had the lame AGE instead of the semi-lame EGO for ages and where the phrase doesn't just sing in English as opposed to Onesian. I think it's time to retire Onesian, maybe to a dark wood-paneled club room in London where elderly gentlemen harrumph about how bad the world is nowadays.
I like the top 15s fine, though my bad mood in regard to the puzzle was I'm sure enhanced by having WHAT DO YOU MEAN ME instead of WE for eons.
So...what do Rex and the Rexians have to say?
Bingo to Rex! Strongly agree obviously with his takedown of Onesianism, and also with his point about the lack of purchase afforded by the short answers at the bottom. Yep..if the purchase had been easier, I'm sure I wouldn't be as grumpy about the two onesies. Nothing too riveting from my POV from my bro and sis Rexians, tho the day is young.
